Jack: The Love Behind Our Logo

Jack Our Mascot!

I was volunteering with SaveABunny.org when I got a call about a bunny who was running out of time. He had come into the city shelter with another bunny, but his partner was adopted, and he was left behind labeled “feisty,” misunderstood, and at risk of euthanasia. I braced myself for what I jokingly called “Bunacula,” and he absolutely lived up to the reputation.

Jack was a big, nine-pound white bunny, huddled tightly in the corner of his shelter cage. When I approached, he froze, then lunged.  He was terrified, defensive, and ready to fight for his life. He wasn’t aggressive; he was scared and alone and relied on his ability to scare people away.  Jack desperately needed patience, safety, and someone willing to see past his fear.

So my husband and I took him in as a foster. We moved slowly. We gave him space. We showed him, day by day, that he was safe and finally home. And little by little, something remarkable happened.

JACK TRANSFORMED

The scared bunny in the corner became a joyful, affectionate, goofy soul. He ran. He binkied. He demanded snuggles.  He bonded with our other bunnies.  He made us laugh every single day. Watching him discover happiness—watching him trust—was nothing short of a gift. We fell in love with him and adopted him, and Jack became exactly where he was always meant to be.

Jack lived a full, beautiful life until he passed away in 2011. We were beyond blessed to share it with him. Every binky, every sprint across the room, every quiet moment asking for love reminded us why rescue work matters.

Jack is proof that healing is possible. He is a testament to how anyone human or animal can come through the hardest moments and become something even stronger on the other side. He represents resilience, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going when things are overwhelming. Stay healthy. Stay safe. Hug a bunny.

We have had many bunnies that needed a second chance and none more or less important than Jack.  Jack’s story is a way to honor them all.
